I spent some time in the bathroom

Last night I got a new pair of swimming goggles, and as I was trying to adjust the headband in the bathroom, the clip that holds the strap in place on the right side snapped loose, and I was sure it had gone flying off somewhere. I spent an hour looking for the clasp. I probably touched every horizontal surface in the bathroom. I couldn’t find it anywhere so I assumed it had gone down the sink. I dismantled the sink, first taking out the elbow-y thing underneath, and then I took the stopper out, which wasn’t as straightforward as I thought. I googled “wedding ring down the drain”, “sink assembly”, and some other stuff like that. Finally, I looked back at the goggles, and the clasp was there. It had just snapped further back on the head-strap. I was pretty frustrated, but the next time I went into the bathroom, I felt a closer intimacy with it.

I thought of a time in high school when I’d locked myself in the bathroom late at night, and had to create a device out of available materials to get myself out.
